In Vitro Assessment

In vitro assessment is the evaluation of biological responses or processes using cells, tissues, biomolecules, or other samples outside a living organism. It works by placing a defined biological system in controlled laboratory conditions, then measuring endpoints such as viability, proliferation, enzyme activity, gene expression, or cellular signaling in response to a treatment or experimental condition. These assays enable researchers to investigate disease mechanisms, compare drug candidates, evaluate toxicity, and characterize biological function while reducing experimental complexity and resource demands. In vitro results help generate mechanistic evidence and guide follow-up studies, although findings must be interpreted with attention to how well the model represents conditions in a whole organism.
