Labview Control Program

A LabVIEW control program is a graphical software application that monitors instruments, processes measurements, and controls experimental equipment, making it valuable for automating biological research. It uses a visual programming language in which front panels provide user controls and displays, while block diagrams define data flow, signal processing, and device responses. In biology, LabVIEW programs can coordinate sensors, pumps, motors, imaging systems, and data-acquisition hardware under defined experimental conditions. This automation improves measurement consistency, enables real-time monitoring, and supports reproducible workflows in areas such as cell culture, physiology, and bioprocess research.

Ice binding proteins (IBPs), also known as antifreeze proteins, inhibit ice growth and are a promising additive for use in the cryopreservation of tissues. The main tool used to investigate IBPs is the nanoliter osmometer. We developed a home-designed cooling stage mounted on an optical microscope and controlled using a custom-built LabVIEW routine. The nanoliter osmometer described here manipulated the sample temperature in an ultra-sensitive manner.
