Laser Excitation Wavelength

Laser excitation wavelength is the specific color, or wavelength, of laser light selected to stimulate a fluorescent molecule or light-sensitive biological component. When the wavelength matches a fluorophore’s absorption spectrum, the molecule absorbs photon energy, raises an electron to an excited state, and releases part of that energy as longer-wavelength fluorescence. Choosing an appropriate wavelength improves signal intensity, spectral separation, and measurement accuracy while limiting unwanted photobleaching or cellular damage. In biology, laser excitation wavelengths are central to fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and live-cell imaging, where they enable researchers to detect labeled proteins, track cellular structures, and measure biological processes.

Divide the transwell system into five groups that undergo various treatments. The first group serves as the control and consists of a co-culture of neuroblastoma and microglia cells. In the second group, treat the co-culturer with fibrillar β-amyloid (fAβ) alone. fAβ induces damage in neuroblastoma cells. In the third group, treat neuroblastoma cells with an 808-nanometer laser, then co-culture them with untreated microglia. The laser reduces oxidative stress, improving neuronal survival. In the...

In the macroscopic world, objects that are large enough to be seen by the naked eye follow the rules of classical physics. A billiard ball moving on a table will behave like a particle; it will continue traveling in a straight line unless it collides with another ball, or it is acted on by some other force, such as friction. The ball has a well-defined position and velocity or well-defined momentum, p = mv, which is defined by mass m and velocity v at any given moment. This is the typical...

A protocol to detect and automate mode locking in a pre-adjusted nonlinear polarization rotation fiber laser is presented. The detection of a sudden change in the output polarization state when mode locking occurs is used to command the alignment of an intra-cavity polarization controller in order to find mode-locking conditions.

We describe a technique to label neurons and their processes via anterograde or retrograde tracer injections into brain nuclei using an in vitro preparation. We modified an existing method of in vitro tracer electroporation by taking advantage of fluorescently labeled mouse mutants and basic optical equipment in order to increase labeling accuracy.
