Microscope Cluster Setup

Microscope cluster setup is the organized arrangement of multiple microscopes, imaging components, and user stations so biological samples can be examined efficiently and consistently. It works by coordinating instrument placement, sample handling, illumination, focusing, image capture, and, where available, shared control or data-management systems, allowing users to compare observations under standardized conditions. In biology laboratories, this approach supports parallel imaging, teaching, collaborative research, and analysis of cells, tissues, and microorganisms. A well-planned cluster can improve access to equipment, reduce setup time, and promote reproducible imaging workflows while helping laboratories accommodate different microscopy methods and research needs.

Spatial Separation of Molecular Conformers and Clusters

2014

We present a technique that allows the spatial separation of different conformers or clusters present in a molecular beam. An electrostatic deflector is used to separate species by their mass-to-dipole moment ratio, leading to the production of gas-phase ensembles of a single conformer or cluster stoichiometry.

A Low Cost Setup for Behavioral Audiometry in Rodents

2012

A fast and inexpensive method for the behavioral determination of hearing parameters like hearing thresholds, hearing impairments or phantom perceptions (subjective tinnitus) is described. It uses pre-pulse inhibition of the acoustic startle response and can be easily implemented in a personal computer using a programmable AD/DA-converter and a piezo sensor.

Cluster Sampling Method

2023

Appropriate sampling methods ensure that samples are drawn without bias and accurately represent the population. Because measuring the entire population in a study is not practical, researchers use samples to represent the population of interest. To choose a cluster sample, divide the population into clusters (groups) and then randomly select some of the clusters. All the members from these clusters are in the cluster sample. For example, if you randomly sample four departments from your...

Vesicular Tubular Clusters

2023

After budding out from the ER membrane, some COPII vesicles lose their coat and fuse with one another to form larger vesicles and interconnected tubules called vesicular tubular clusters or VTCs. These clusters constitute a compartment at the ER-Golgi interface known as ERGIC (Endoplasmic Reticulum Golgi Intermediate Compartment). The ERGIC is a mobile membrane-bound cargo transport system that sorts proteins secreted from ER and delivers them to the Golgi. With the help of motor proteins such...

Rapid Setup of Tissue Microarray and Tiled Area Imaging on the Multiplexed Ion Beam Imaging Microscope Using the Tile/SED/Array Interface

Multiplexed ion beam imaging (MIBI) is often used to image tissue microarrays and tiled, contiguous tissue areas, but current software for setting up these experiments is cumbersome. The tile/SED/array interface is an intuitive, interactive graphical tool developed to dramatically simplify and accelerate MIBI run setup.
