Modular Incubator Chamber

A modular incubator chamber is a configurable enclosure that maintains controlled environmental conditions for biological samples during laboratory experiments, particularly live-cell imaging. It regulates temperature, humidity, and gas composition around cells or tissues, while chamber components can be adapted to different culture vessels, microscopes, or experimental setups. By stabilizing conditions such as carbon dioxide concentration and oxygen availability, the system supports cell viability and reduces environmental stress during observation. In biology, modular incubator chambers enable long-term time-lapse microscopy, analysis of cellular behavior, and studies of processes influenced by temperature, pH, or hypoxia.

We describe the fabrication of micropatterned hydrogel sheets using a simple process, which can be assembled and manipulated in a freestanding form. Using these modular hydrogel sheets, a simple macro-scaled 3D cell culture system can be generated with a controlled cellular microenvironment.

A General Method for Evaluating Incubation of Sucrose Craving in Rats

Responding for food or drug-paired cues increases over the course of a period of abstinence and this may relate to an increased susceptibility to relapse behaviors. Here we detail a procedure for evaluating this "incubation of craving" in rats that have self-administered sucrose.

A Technique for the Prolonged Incubation of Neuronal Tissue of the Retina

2025

This video demonstrates a method for prolonged incubation of neuronal tissue of the retina. Eyecups containing retina are obtained from a mouse eye; the inner limiting membrane (ILM) is enzymatically digested to expose the neuronal cells of the retina, and either the treated eyecup or the isolated retina is transferred to a specialized incubator for prolonged incubation at a low temperature.

Design, Surface Treatment, Cellular Plating, and Culturing of Modular Neuronal Networks Composed of Functionally Inter-connected Circuits

This manuscript describes a protocol to grow in vitro modular networks consisting of spatially confined, functionally inter-connected neuronal circuits. A polymeric mask is used to pattern a protein layer to promote cellular adhesion over the culturing substrate. Plated neurons grow on coated areas establishing spontaneous connections and exhibiting electrophysiological activity.
