Nutritive Disc Media

Nutritive disc media are culture media or nutrient-impregnated discs used to provide selected nutrients for microbial growth and to assess nutritional requirements. In a typical assay, discs containing defined compounds are placed on an agar surface inoculated with a microorganism; growth around a disc indicates that the supplied nutrient supports proliferation, while the absence of growth suggests it is insufficient or unusable under the test conditions. This approach helps characterize microbial metabolism, identify auxotrophic strains, compare nutrient utilization, and support studies of bacterial physiology. Nutritive disc media therefore provide a simple visual method for linking specific nutrients with observable biological growth.

Parentral Nutrition: Centeral and Peripheral Parental Nutrition

2025

Parenteral Nutrition (PN) delivers essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. It is commonly used for individuals with severe digestive disorders or conditions that prevent normal nutrient absorption. PN can be administered through two primary routes: 1. Central Parenteral Nutrition (CPN): CPN involves delivering a high concentration of nutrients through a large vein. This is typically achieved using a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) or,...

Organisms exhibit remarkable metabolic diversity, categorized based on how they acquire energy and carbon. These strategies enable survival in various ecological niches and are essential for maintaining energy flow and nutrient cycling within ecosystems.Energy and Carbon SourcesOrganisms are classified as phototrophs or chemotrophs based on energy acquisition. Phototrophs use light as their energy source, while chemotrophs rely on oxidizing chemical compounds. Further differentiation arises...

2012

The generation, purification and cell invasion of intracellular, cytoplasmic full length DISC1 protein aggresomes from cell cultures and of a labeled, multimeric recombinant DISC1 protein fragment in E. coli are described. Cell invasiveness is shown for recipient cells in cell culture and for neurons in vivo after stereotactical brain inoculation.

The Roles of Bacteria and Fungi in Plant Nutrition

2026

Plants have the impressive ability to create their own food through photosynthesis. However, plants often require assistance from organisms in the soil to acquire the nutrients they need to function correctly. Both bacteria and fungi have evolved symbiotic relationships with plants that help the species to thrive in a wide variety of environments. The collective bacteria residing in and around plant roots are termed the rhizosphere. These soil-dwelling bacterial species are incredibly diverse.
