Intravascular Injection

Intravascular injection is the delivery of a substance directly into a blood vessel, allowing it to enter the circulation without first crossing tissue barriers or undergoing absorption from another site. The technique uses a needle or catheter to access a vein or artery, where blood flow carries the injected material through the vascular system and distributes it to target tissues. In biology and biomedical research, intravascular injection supports the administration of drugs, tracers, cells, and experimental compounds, enabling studies of circulation, organ delivery, pharmacokinetics, and vascular function. Accurate vessel placement and controlled dosing are essential for reliable results and safe use.

We detail a new near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) catheter for 2-dimensional intravascular molecular imaging of plaque biology in vivo. The NIRF catheter can visualize key biological processes such as inflammation by reporting on the presence of plaque-avid activatable and targeted NIR fluorochromes. The catheter utilizes clinical engineering and power requirements and is targeted for application in human coronary arteries. The following research study describes a multimodal imaging strategy...

Intravascular Delivery of Biologics to the Rat Kidney

The administration of drugs for recovery of kidney function requires control of the localization and distribution of the therapeutic compound. Here, we describe in detail a simple technique for intrarenal delivery of drugs in rats. This procedure may be easily performed with no mortality and high reproducibility.

Intravascular Perfusion of Carbon Black Ink Allows Reliable Visualization of Cerebral Vessels

Analysis of rodent cerebrovascular anatomy plays an important role in experimental stroke research. In this context, intravascular perfusion with colored latex has been considered as a standard tool for several years. However, this technique implies distinct technical limitations, which undermine its reproducibility. Here, we describe a simple method to visualize cerebral vessels in a reproducible manner. Injection of a mixture of two commercially available carbon black inks through the left...
