Partial Dominance

Partial dominance is an inheritance pattern in which neither allele completely masks the other, so heterozygous individuals show an intermediate phenotype between those of the two homozygotes. This outcome occurs because the expression of both alleles produces a blended or intermediate trait, as seen when red and white snapdragon flowers produce pink offspring. In genetic crosses, the F1 generation is typically heterozygous, while the F2 generation can display a characteristic 1:2:1 ratio of phenotypes and genotypes. Studying partial dominance helps students and researchers understand allele interactions, predict inheritance patterns, and distinguish this process from complete dominance and codominance.

Dominant and Dominated Strategies

2025

In strategic decision-making, a dominant strategy is one that always provides the best outcome for a player, no matter what the other players decide. This ensures that the player's payoff is maximized regardless of the choices made by others. On the other hand, a dominated strategy consistently leads to a worse outcome than another available strategy, regardless of the opponent's decision. For instance, imagine two firms competing in a market by setting production levels—either high or low.

Incomplete Dominance

Gregor Mendel's work (1822 - 1884) was primarily focused on pea plants. Through his initial experiments, he determined that every gene in a diploid cell has two variants called alleles inherited from each parent. He suggested that amongst these two alleles, one allele is dominant in character and the other recessive. The combination of alleles determines the phenotype of a gene in an organism. According to Mendel, organisms with both copies or a single copy of the dominant allele display a...

2025

This protocol describes a behavioral assay to evaluate social dominance in rodents using the tube test. Social dominance remains stable over time, and several models of developmental and neurological disorders exhibit robust social dominance abnormalities. Therefore, the tube test serves as a convenient outcome measure for mechanistic studies or preclinical therapeutic screening.

Equilibrium in Dominant Strategies

2025

In game theory, equilibrium in dominant strategies arises when each player selects their optimal strategy independently of others' choices. This simplifies analysis since each player's best decision is predictable without considering opponents' actions. Understanding Dominant Strategy Equilibrium A dominant strategy consistently offers the best outcome for a player, regardless of the choices of other players. When all players adopt their dominant strategies, the game reaches a stable...

2026

This protocol describes a robot-assisted partial splenectomy for a benign splenic tumor. The robotic approach optimizes spleen preservation by enhancing surgical precision, minimizing blood loss, and improving postoperative outcomes. Key surgical steps include meticulous splenic hilum dissection, selective vascular ligation, intraoperative ultrasonography, and controlled parenchymal transection.
