Phenotype Prediction

Phenotype prediction is the process of forecasting an organism’s observable traits from genetic, molecular, environmental, or other biological information. It typically uses statistical models or machine-learning algorithms to identify relationships between input features, such as DNA variants and gene expression, and phenotypic outcomes, including morphology, physiology, behavior, or disease susceptibility. In biology, these predictions help researchers interpret genotype–phenotype relationships, prioritize experiments, and estimate traits that are difficult or costly to measure directly. Applications include crop and livestock breeding, medical risk assessment, drug response studies, and conservation genetics, supporting more efficient research and informed biological decision-making.

2019

A quantitative method has been developed to identify and predict the acute toxicity of chemicals by automatically analyzing the phenotypic profiling of Caenorhabditis elegans. This protocol describes how to treat worms with chemicals in a 384-well plate, capture videos, and quantify toxicological related phenotypes.

VSEPR Theory for Determination of Electron Pair Geometries The following procedure uses VSEPR theory to determine the electron pair geometries and the molecular structures: Write the Lewis structure of the molecule or polyatomic ion. Count the number of electron groups (lone pairs and bonds) around the central atom. A single, double, or triple bond counts as one region of electron density. Identify the electron-pair geometry based on the number of electron groups: linear, trigonal planar,...

2011

Guidelines for computer based structural and functional characterization of protein using the I-TASSER pipeline is described. Starting from query protein sequence, 3D models are generated using multiple threading alignments and iterative structural assembly simulations. Functional inferences are thereafter drawn based on matches to proteins with known structure and functions.

Microfluidic flow chambers etched by photolithography and fabricated from PDMS are applied to probe functional outcomes associated with EC dysfunction and inflammation. In a representative experiment, the ability of differential shear stress to modulate monocytic cell adhesion to cytokine activated EC monolayers is demonstrated.
