Plrv Transmission

PLRV transmission is the biological spread of potato leafroll virus between infected and healthy plants, a process central to understanding disease development in potato crops. Aphids acquire PLRV while feeding on phloem sap, after which the virus moves through the insect’s gut and hemolymph to the salivary glands in a persistent, circulative process. During later phloem feeding, infected aphids inoculate healthy plants, allowing PLRV to replicate and spread systemically through vascular tissues. Studying this transmission pathway supports disease monitoring, vector management, production of virus-free seed potatoes, and strategies to reduce yield losses caused by leaf rolling, chlorosis, and tuber quality decline.

Testing the Physiological Barriers to Viral Transmission in Aphids Using Microinjection

2008

Aphids are effective transmitters of plant viruses. Aphid microinjection of virus, the procedure we will show you today, is a technique allowing researchers to inject virus directly into the hemocoel of the aphid, bypassing the gut, one of the 2 major barriers for virus transmission in a circulative manner. The same technique is also used to inject dsRNA for RNAi.

Transmission of Pathogens

2026

Pathogens spread from their reservoirs to susceptible hosts through three main routes: contact transmission, vehicle transmission, and vector transmission. Each route involves distinct mechanisms of transfer.Contact TransmissionThis category includes direct contact, indirect contact, and droplet transmission:Direct contact involves immediate physical interaction between individuals—such as a handshake—which can spread pathogens like Streptococcus pyogenes, the bacterium responsible for...

Non-invasive Assessment of Changes in Corticomotoneuronal Transmission in Humans

The aim of the present study was to assess changes in transmission at the corticomotoneuronal synapses in humans after repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. For this purpose, an electrophysiological method is introduced that allows assessment of pathway specific corticospinal transmission, i.e. differentiation of fast, direct corticospinal pathways from polysynaptic connections.

This video demonstrates how to employ two neural stimulants, aldicarb and pentylenetetrazole (PTZ), in complementary ways to study synaptic function in the nematode, C. elegans. This complementary approach may also be used to shed light on evolutionarily conserved mechanisms for modulating neuronal synchrony and has implications for epilepsy and seizures.
