Protein Condensate Binding

Protein condensate binding is the selective association of proteins with biomolecular condensates, dynamic, non-membrane compartments that concentrate molecules within cells. Binding occurs when proteins interact through multivalent contacts, such as folded domains, intrinsically disordered regions, or connections to RNA and other scaffold molecules, thereby influencing condensate formation, composition, and material properties. In biology, these interactions help organize processes including transcription, RNA processing, signaling, and stress responses. Studying protein condensate binding clarifies how cells control biochemical reactions in space and time and may reveal mechanisms linking altered phase behavior to diseases such as cancer and neurodegeneration.

Aldol Condensation vs Claisen Condensation

2025

Aldol condensation is an acid or base-catalyzed condensation between aldehydes or ketones to give an α,ꞵ-unsaturated carbonyl compound. A base-promoted condensation between ester molecules to produce a ꞵ-ketoester is known as the Claisen condensation. In the presence of a base, both reactions involve deprotonation of the acidic α hydrogen to produce the corresponding enolates. The nucleophilic enolates attack their respective nonenolized carbonyl compound forming a tetrahedral intermediate.
