Rat Muscle Sections

Rat muscle sections are thin slices of rat skeletal muscle prepared for microscopic examination, allowing researchers to assess tissue architecture, fiber organization, and cellular changes in a biological model. Typically, tissue is fixed to preserve structure, embedded in a supporting medium, cut into serial sections with a microtome, and stained to distinguish muscle fibers, connective tissue, nuclei, or pathological features. In biology, these sections support studies of muscle development, injury and repair, exercise adaptation, disease mechanisms, and responses to experimental treatments. By linking visible tissue patterns with physiological or molecular findings, they help evaluate structural outcomes across research models.

We report a method to quantify muscle area, which is an indirect method to determine muscle mass in Drosophila adults. We demonstrate the application of our methodology by analyzing the indirect flight muscles in a Drosophila model of Myotonic Dystrophy disease.

In Vivo Measurement of the Compound Muscle Action Potential in a Rat

2025

This video demonstrates the procedure for recording compound muscle action potential (CMAP) in rats by applying electrical stimuli to the ulnar nerve, adjusting electrodes for optimal signal, and increasing stimulation to assess nerve functionality. This method enables the in vivo investigation of the peripheral nerve functions in neurological disorders.
