Rna Interference

RNA interference is a natural gene-silencing process in which small RNA molecules reduce expression of complementary genes, making it an important tool for studying and controlling biological function. In the canonical pathway, double-stranded RNA is cleaved by the enzyme Dicer into small interfering RNAs, which load into the RNA-induced silencing complex; an Argonaute protein then uses one strand as a guide to recognize matching messenger RNA and promote its cleavage or repress its translation. This mechanism supports gene-function analysis, disease modeling, and the development of RNA-based therapeutics while informing research in genetics, cell biology, and biotechnology.

RNA interference (RNAi) is a process in which a small non-coding RNA molecule blocks the post-transcriptional expression of a gene by binding to its messenger RNA (mRNA) and preventing the protein from being translated. This process occurs naturally in cells, often through the activity of genomically-encoded microRNAs. Researchers can take advantage of this mechanism by introducing synthetic RNAs to deactivate specific genes for research or therapeutic purposes. For example, RNAi could be used...
