Scissors

Scissors are hinged cutting instruments that separate materials by directing force through two opposing blades, making them important tools for biological observation and laboratory work. As the handles close, the blades move past one another and concentrate pressure along their edges, producing a shearing action that cuts specimens, tissues, or other materials. In biology, scissors support dissection, specimen preparation, tissue handling, and routine laboratory procedures, with blade shape and sharpness selected according to the material being cut. Proper handling, cleaning, and sterilization help maintain precision, protect samples, and reduce contamination during experimental and educational work.
