Time Course Assay

A time course assay is an experimental method that measures a biological process or response at multiple time points, revealing how it changes rather than capturing a single endpoint. Researchers collect samples or record signals at defined intervals under controlled conditions, then compare measurements to characterize onset, progression, peak activity, duration, or decline. In biology, this approach can track enzyme activity, gene expression, cell growth, signaling responses, or drug effects. Time-resolved data help distinguish short-lived from sustained responses, identify critical stages in a process, and improve interpretation of mechanisms, treatment outcomes, and experimental conditions.

Designer chromosomes of the Synthetic Yeast Genome project, Sc2.0, can be distinguished from their native counterparts using a PCR-based genotyping assay called PCRTagging, which has a presence/absence endpoint. Here we describe a high-throughput real time PCR detection method for PCRTag genotyping.

An Assay for Real-Time Monitoring of Extracellular pH in Dental Biofilms

2025

This video demonstrates a real-time assay for monitoring extracellular pH in dental biofilms using a pH-sensitive ratiometric probe. When an in situ-grown bacterial biofilm is exposed to glucose, a reduction in extracellular pH near the bacterial biomass protonates the probe, leading to its increased concentration inside the bacteria. The disparity in emission wavelength between the protonated and unprotonated probe is utilized to calculate the pH across the extracellular matrix of the biofilm...
