Tissue Healing

Tissue healing is the biological process through which damaged tissue restores its structure and function after injury, making it essential for organismal survival and maintenance. It typically proceeds through coordinated phases of hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling: blood clotting limits damage, immune cells remove debris and signal repair, new cells and extracellular matrix rebuild the tissue, and collagen organization strengthens the result. In biology, studying tissue healing clarifies how cells communicate, migrate, divide, and differentiate in response to injury. This knowledge supports research into wound care, fibrosis, regenerative medicine, biomaterials, and therapies designed to improve repair or prevent excessive scarring.

Healing II: Complications

2026

Complications during healing arise when tissue repair is altered by local or systemic factors. These changes involve abnormal collagen deposition, altered biomechanics, and reduced vascular supply, impairing restoration of normal structure and function.Loss of FunctionScar tissue differs significantly from the original tissue it replaces. In the skin, fibrosis lacks adnexal structures such as hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands. Their absence reduces tactile sensitivity, impairs...

Healing I: Introduction

Healing is the physiological process by which the body restores the integrity and function of damaged tissues following injury. It involves a coordinated interplay of cellular proliferation, extracellular matrix remodeling, and growth factor signaling. The extent and nature of the tissue damage determine whether healing occurs by resolution, regeneration, or replacement.ResolutionResolution represents the most complete form of healing, occurring when the injury is minimal and tissue...

This protocol describes the evaluation process of healing tendons in rats that have been injected with allogeneic platelet rich plasma (PRP) or saline solution after removing part of the Achilles tendon. The progress of tendon healing is evaluated at several time points using different types of analyses.
