Tube Network Quantification

Tube network quantification is a method for measuring the structure and organization of interconnected tubular networks in biological samples, supporting objective analysis of processes such as angiogenesis. It typically uses microscopy images and image-analysis algorithms to identify network segments, junctions, branches, and enclosed meshes, then calculates metrics such as total tube length, branching density, and network connectivity. In cell-based assays, these measurements help evaluate endothelial tube formation and the effects of genes, signaling pathways, or candidate drugs. Standardized quantification improves reproducibility, enables comparisons between experimental conditions, and provides quantitative evidence for vascular biology and disease research.

Chip-in-a-Tube-Based Digital PCR for Quantification of Single Nucleotide Variants

2025

This video demonstrates the utility of digital PCR in a chip-in-a-tube format for the detection of single nucleotide variations in DNA samples. A single PCR reaction is partitioned into chambers that act as independent PCR reactions, and the detection of fluorescence signals from the amplified targets in the chambers is used to compute the frequency of the variant allele in the sample.

Quantification of Protein Interaction Network Dynamics using Multiplexed Co-Immunoprecipitation

Quantitative Multiplex Immunoprecipitation (QMI) uses flow cytometry for sensitive detection of differences in the abundance of targeted protein-protein interactions between two samples. QMI can be performed using a small amount of biomaterial, does not require genetically engineered tags, and can be adapted for any previously defined protein interaction network.

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Tube thoracostomy (chest tube placement) is a procedure during which a hollow tube is inserted into the thoracic cavity for drainage of fluid or air. Emergency chest tube insertion is performed for definitive treatment of tension pneumothorax, traumatic hemothorax, large-volume pleural effusions, and empyemas. Irrespective of the cause of air and fluid accumulation in the pleural space, the...

Protein Networks

2020

An organism can have thousands of different proteins, and these proteins must cooperate to ensure the health of an organism. Proteins bind to other proteins and form complexes to carry out their functions. Many proteins interact with multiple other proteins creating a complex network of protein interactions. These interactions can be represented through maps depicting protein-protein interaction networks, represented as nodes and edges. Nodes are circles that are representative of a protein,...

Network Covalent Solids

2020

Network covalent solids contain a three-dimensional network of covalently bonded atoms as found in the crystal structures of nonmetals like diamond, graphite, silicon, and some covalent compounds, such as silicon dioxide (sand) and silicon carbide (carborundum, the abrasive on sandpaper). Many minerals have networks of covalent bonds. To break or to melt a covalent network solid, covalent bonds must be broken. Because covalent bonds are relatively strong, covalent network solids are typically...
