Wash Protein

Wash protein refers to the washing step used during protein purification or analysis to remove unbound proteins, salts, detergents, and other contaminants while retaining the protein of interest. In affinity purification, a buffered wash solution passes through a protein-bound resin, disrupting weak or nonspecific interactions without breaking the stronger interaction between the target protein and its ligand. Wash conditions, including buffer composition, ionic strength, pH, and detergent concentration, help determine purity and recovery. Effective washing improves the quality of samples for biochemical assays, structural studies, and downstream biological experiments.

Washing, Drying, and Ignition of Precipitates

2024

After filtration, the precipitate is washed to remove coprecipitated impurities and any remaining mother liquor. Colloidal precipitates, such as silver chloride, are washed with an electrolyte (such as dilute nitric acid) to prevent the peptization of the precipitate. In the case of slightly soluble precipitates, the wash solution contains a common ion to reduce solubility. Lead sulfate, which is slightly soluble in water, is washed with dilute sulfuric acid. Similarly, wash solutions may be...

2025

Platelet metabolism is of interest, particularly as it relates to the role of platelet hyper- and hypoactivity in bleeding and thrombotic disorders. Isolating platelets from plasma is necessary for some metabolic assays; presented here is a method for isolating of intracellular metabolites from washed platelets.
