Neural Basal Medium

Neural basal medium is a specialized cell-culture medium designed to support the maintenance and study of neurons and other neural cells under controlled laboratory conditions. Its balanced nutrients, salts, amino acids, vitamins, and energy sources help sustain cellular metabolism, while supplements such as B27 or N2 and selected growth factors can promote survival, proliferation, or differentiation. In cancer research, this medium supports neural tumor models, including glioma and neuroblastoma cultures, enabling researchers to examine tumor-cell behavior, stem-like properties, drug responses, and interactions with neural microenvironments. Consistent formulation also improves reproducibility across experiments involving neural cancer biology.

Neural stem cells (NSCs) refer to cells which can self-renew and differentiate into the three neural lineages. Here, we describe a protocol to determine NSC frequency in a given cell population using neurosphere formation and differentiation under clonal conditions.

Differentiation of Neural Progenitor Cells into Neurons

2025

The video showcased a cell culture method for differentiating neural progenitor cells into neurons. By incubating cells in a nutrient-rich medium supplemented with growth factors, the progenitor cells matured into neurons with developed axons and dendrites. A stabilizing agent ensured cell viability and protected against oxidative damage throughout the differentiation process.
