Secondary Nucleation

Secondary nucleation is the formation of new crystal nuclei in the presence of pre-existing crystals, a process that strongly influences crystallization kinetics and crystal size distributions. It occurs when growing crystals interact with the surrounding solution or with one another through mechanisms such as contact, collision, abrasion, or fluid shear, allowing crystal fragments or surface-associated clusters to develop into stable nuclei under supersaturated conditions. In chemistry, understanding secondary nucleation helps researchers control crystal number, size, and morphology in processes including pharmaceutical crystallization, materials synthesis, and industrial separation. Managing this process can improve product consistency, yield, and downstream processing.

Secondary Healthcare System

2023

Secondary healthcare is offered by a specialist, generally in hospitals or clinics for patients referred by primary healthcare providers. It occurs when a person has an illness or injury that requires specific medical care. Secondary care is often referred to as acute care. Secondary care can range from uncomplicated care to repair a minor laceration or treat a strep throat infection to more complicated emergent care, such as treating a head injury sustained in an automobile accident. Synthesis of Compound Giant Unilamellar Vesicles: A Biomimetic Model of Nucleate Cells

2025

This article presents a method for preparing compound Giant Unilamellar Vesicles (cGUVs) with a vesicle-in-vesicle structure, with customized electrical conductivity in inner, annular, and outer regions. Electroformation synthesizes simple GUVs, which are transformed into stomatocytes and cGUVs via osmotic shock, providing a valuable model for studying the biophysics of nucleated cells.
