Base Preparation

Base preparation is the engineering process of conditioning and stabilizing the ground or supporting layer beneath a structure, pavement, foundation, or other constructed system. It typically involves site clearing, grading, moisture control, placement of suitable soil or aggregate, and compaction to achieve the required strength, uniformity, and drainage. Proper preparation transfers loads efficiently and limits settlement, erosion, cracking, and water-related damage during service. Engineers use site investigation, material testing, and field quality control to select preparation methods and verify performance, making this stage essential to the safety, durability, and cost-effectiveness of infrastructure and construction projects.
