Dowel Laminated Timber

Dowel laminated timber is an engineered wood system that joins layers of solid-sawn lumber into structural panels, offering a low-adhesive alternative for building construction. During fabrication, boards are arranged in perpendicular or parallel layers and connected with hardwood dowels; as the wood reaches equilibrium moisture content, the dowels swell and create friction that locks the assembly together. The resulting panels can serve as walls, floors, roofs, and other load-bearing elements in timber engineering. Their prefabrication potential, renewable material base, and reduced reliance on synthetic adhesives support efficient construction and ongoing research into durable, lower-impact structural systems.
