Hybrid Fusion Model

A hybrid fusion model is an engineering framework that combines complementary models, data sources, or physical representations to produce a more complete and reliable system description than any single approach can provide. It works by integrating information through methods such as weighted combination, feature-level fusion, or decision-level fusion, while preserving the strengths of mechanistic, computational, and data-driven components. Engineers use hybrid fusion models to improve prediction, monitoring, control, and design under complex or changing conditions. These models can support digital twins, fault diagnosis, intelligent manufacturing, and multidisciplinary system analysis, linking established engineering principles with measurements and machine-learning methods.

Nuclear Fusion

The process of converting very light nuclei into heavier nuclei is also accompanied by the conversion of mass into large amounts of energy, a process called fusion. The principal source of energy in the sun is a net fusion reaction in which four hydrogen nuclei fuse and ultimately produce one helium nucleus and two positrons. A helium nucleus has a mass that is 0.7% less than that of four hydrogen nuclei; this lost mass is converted into energy during the fusion. This reaction produces about...

Here, we present a protocol for live imaging of mouse secondary palate fusion using confocal microscopy. This protocol can be used in combination with a variety of fluorescent reporter mouse lines, and with pathway inhibitors for mechanistic insight. This protocol can be adapted for live imaging in other developmental systems.

Whole-Mount In Situ Hybridization

Whole-mount in situ hybridization (WMISH) is a common technique used for visualizing the location of expressed RNAs in embryos. In this process, synthetically produced RNA probes are first complementarily bound, or "hybridized," to the transcripts of target genes. Immunohistochemistry or fluorescence is then used to detect these RNA hybrids, revealing spatial and temporal patterns of gene expression. Unlike traditional in situ hybridization techniques, which require thin tissue sections whose...
