Marble

Marble is a metamorphic rock formed when limestone undergoes recrystallization under heat and pressure, producing a dense stone valued for its color, veining, and polish. Its interlocking calcite crystals influence mechanical behavior, while porosity, mineral composition, and grain structure affect strength, durability, and resistance to weathering. In engineering and construction, marble serves as a dimension stone for façades, flooring, countertops, stairs, and architectural surfaces. Engineers assess its load-bearing capacity, water absorption, abrasion resistance, and sensitivity to acidic chemicals when selecting, designing, and maintaining marble components.

The zebrafish maxillary barbel is an integumentary sense organ containing ectodermal, mesodermal and neural crest derivatives. Importantly, the adult barbel can regenerate after proximal amputation. This video introduces maxillary barbel development and demonstrates a surgical protocol to induce regeneration, followed by collection, embedding and downstream imaging of barbel specimens.

Here, we present a protocol to induce hypoxia in neonatal mice by delivering them in controlled environments with varying oxygen concentrations. Mouse models subjected to oxygen variations at birth have durably varied the expression of miRNAs involved in the induction of behavioral phenotypic changes such as autism.
