Multi-agent Systems

Multi-agent systems are computational systems in which multiple autonomous agents interact to achieve individual or shared goals, making them important for modeling and engineering complex distributed behavior. Each agent uses observations, internal rules or learned policies, and communication with other agents to make decisions, coordinate actions, negotiate resources, or adapt to changing conditions without relying on a single central controller. In engineering, these systems support robot teams, sensor networks, traffic management, power grids, and other applications that require scalability, resilience, and real-time cooperation. Their study connects artificial intelligence, control, and systems engineering, while evaluation often focuses on coordination efficiency, robustness, and emergent system-level outcomes.

Multi-input and Multi-variable systems

Cruise control systems in cars are designed as multi-input systems to maintain a driver's desired speed while compensating for external disturbances such as changes in terrain. The block diagram for a cruise control system typically includes two main inputs: the desired speed set by the driver and any external disturbances, such as the incline of the road. By adjusting the engine throttle, the system maintains the vehicle's speed as close to the desired value as possible. In the absence of...

This protocol describes the preparation and characterization of a dendrimeric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent that carries cyclen-based macrocyclic chelates coordinating paramagnetic gadolinium ions. In a series of MRI experiments in vitro, this agent produced an amplified MRI signal when compared to the commercially available monomeric analogue.

Monitoring the Brain Cortex with a Multi-Electrode Array in Response to Seizure-Inducing Agents

In this video, the effects of transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) on brain slices containing the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and thalamus regions are investigated, using a multi-electrode array (MEA) to measure electric signals. By delivering electric pulses and infusing seizure-inducing drugs, the study investigates the ACC response to seizures.

Source: Vy M. Dong and Daniel Kim, Department of Chemistry, University of California, Irvine, CA Controlling the reactivity and selectivity during the synthesis of a molecule is very important criteria for chemists. This has led to the development of many reagents that allow chemists to pick and choose reagents suitable for a given task. Quite often, a balance between reactivity and selectivity needs to be achieved. This experiment will use IR spectroscopy to monitor the reaction and to...
