Slider Crank

A slider-crank is a mechanical linkage that converts rotary motion into reciprocating linear motion, or the reverse, making it fundamental to many machines. A rotating crank drives a connecting rod, whose angular movement pushes and pulls a slider constrained to a straight path; crank rotation therefore determines the slider’s stroke, position, velocity, and acceleration, with motion changing direction at the dead centers. Engineers use slider-crank mechanisms in internal-combustion engines, compressors, pumps, and reciprocating machinery to transmit force and control motion. Kinematic analysis helps predict torque, vibration, wear, and efficiency, supporting component sizing, performance optimization, and reliable machine design.

We present a protocol to test the aerobic and anaerobic power of the upper body muscles over a duration of 3 min in able-bodied as well as in paraplegic and tetraplegic individuals. The protocol presents specific modifications in its application for upper-body exercise in individuals with or without disability.

The deferred growth inhibition assay can be used to assess the competition effect by one bacterial isolate on another. Inhibition is quantified by measuring the zone of clearing around the inhibitor-producing isolate, or qualitatively assessed by determining the visible extent of inhibition.

Oral Gavage in Neonatal Mouse Pups and Functional Assessment of Gut Barrier Integrity Using Ussing Chambers

2026

This article describes: (1) oral gavage delivery of test molecules to neonatal mice as early as DOL 6; and (2) ex vivo evaluation of colonic epithelial barrier function in biopsies from DOL 10 to weaning (DOL 20) pups by assessing paracellular and transcellular permeability with Ussing chambers.

Biolayer Interferometry Technology to Detect Interactions between Ligand and Analyte

2025

In this video, we demonstrate biolayer interferometry (BLI) technology to detect the intermolecular interactions between ligands and target analytes in real-time. BLI measures changes in the interference pattern of white light reflected off a layer of immobilized ligands on a biosensor surface as they interact with analytes in solution.
