Vacuum Manipulation

Vacuum manipulation is the controlled removal or adjustment of gas from an enclosed space to create and maintain pressure below atmospheric levels. It works by using vacuum pumps, valves, and sealed chambers to extract gas molecules, regulate pressure, and control the movement of air or other gases under defined conditions. In environmental research and engineering, vacuum manipulation supports sample preparation, gas separation, filtration, drying, and the study of processes that depend on pressure or atmospheric composition. Precise control of vacuum conditions improves experimental reproducibility, limits contamination, and enables safer, more efficient handling of gases, liquids, and environmentally sensitive materials.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as a Useful Adjunctive Tool for Pneumonia

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

Source: Robert M. Rioux, Ajay Sathe & Zhifeng Chen, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Vacuum is required for a number of laboratory procedures. This is most routinely achieved in the laboratory by the use of vacuum pumps. In addition to working at low pressures, vacuum pumps can also be used to enable rapid changing of the atmospheres in a reactor or flask by evacuation and backfilling.

(2022)This video demonstrates a vacuum infiltration method to introduce a bacterial pathogen into Arabidopsis plant leaves. The approach uses a prepared bacterial suspension and vacuum pulses to enable uniform entry through stomata, resulting in controlled leaf infection.

This article describes an experimental approach for dynamic regulation of cell-cell interactions between adherent cells on a micrometer scale. Manipulation of intercellular communication between hepatocytes and stromal cell is demonstrated. The developed platform enables investigation of cell-cell interactions in a variety of biological processes, including development and pathogenesis.

How to Build a Vacuum Spring-transport Package for Spinning Rotor Gauges

Here we describe how to build a robust spring-transport mechanism for a spinning rotor gauge. This device securely immobilizes the rotor and keeps it under vacuum during transportation. We also describe packaging that minimizes the risk of damage during transport. Tests show our design works for typical shocks during transport.
