Multi Channel Imaging

Multi-channel imaging is a microscopy approach that captures signals from multiple fluorescent labels or other contrast sources in separate channels, allowing researchers to visualize several targets within the same specimen. Each channel uses a distinct emission spectrum, optical filter, or detector setting, while image registration and spectral separation help preserve the identity and location of each signal. In genetics, this method can reveal the spatial relationships among chromosomes, DNA sequences, RNA transcripts, and cellular structures. By combining molecular specificity with positional information, multi-channel imaging supports studies of gene organization, expression, chromosome behavior, and genetic variation in individual cells or tissues.

2011

Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is an effective method to manipulate cells. Printed circuit boards (PCB) can provide inexpensive, reusable and effective electrodes for contact-free cell manipulation within microfluidic devices. By combining PDMS-based microfluidic channels with coverslips on PCBs, we demonstrate bead and cell manipulation and separation within multichannel microfluidic devices.

2015

The use of electron channeling contrast imaging in a scanning electron microscope to characterize defects in III-V/Si heteroexpitaxial thin films is described. This method yields similar results to plan-view transmission electron microscopy, but in significantly less time due to lack of required sample preparation.

Single-channel Analysis and Calcium Imaging in the Podocytes of the Freshly Isolated Glomeruli

Changes in the intracellular calcium levels in the podocytes are one of the most important means to control the filtration function of glomeruli. Here we explain a high-throughput approach that allows detection of real-time calcium handling and single ion channels activity in the podocytes of the freshly isolated glomeruli.

A technique for performing quantitative three-dimensional (3D) imaging for a range of fluid flows is presented. Using concepts from the area of Light Field Imaging, we reconstruct 3D volumes from arrays of images. Our 3D results span a broad range including velocity fields and multi-phase bubble size distributions.
