Automated Multichannel Pipetting

Automated multichannel pipetting is a liquid-handling technique that uses programmable instruments to transfer measured volumes across several wells or vessels simultaneously, improving throughput and consistency. The system coordinates multiple pipette channels, tips, aspiration, and dispensing steps according to a protocol while controlling factors such as volume, liquid level, and transfer speed. In immunology and infection research, this approach streamlines serial dilutions, reagent distribution, sample preparation, and plate-based assays such as immunoassays. By reducing repetitive manual work and well-to-well variation, it supports reproducible experiments, efficient processing of large sample sets, and standardized diagnostic and research workflows.

Peptide adsorption to plasticware during traditional tip-based serial dilutions can significantly impact potency determination and confound the understanding of structure-activity relationships used for lead identification and lead optimization phases of drug discovery. Here methods for automated acoustic non-contact serial dilution of peptide samples are described.
