Automated Western Instrument

An automated western instrument is a laboratory platform that performs protein separation, immobilization, antibody probing, and signal detection with minimal hands-on intervention, making quantitative protein analysis more consistent and efficient. In a typical workflow, samples undergo capillary electrophoresis, proteins are fixed within the capillary, and primary and labeled secondary antibodies generate a chemiluminescent or fluorescent signal that software converts into size- and abundance-based data. In immunology and infection research, these systems measure host signaling proteins, antibodies, and pathogen-associated targets from limited samples, supporting biomarker validation, pathway studies, and reproducible comparisons across treatments or patient groups.

The Western Blot

2023

Western Blotting is used to identify the presence of specific proteins in electrophoretically separated samples. Following separation by a technique known as sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, or SDS-PAGE, western transfer is used to move proteins from a polyacrylamide gel onto a piece of membrane which traps the proteins in their respective locations. Next, the membranes are probed with antibodies in a process called immunboblotting. Immunoblotting uses...
