Fixed Sample Analysis

Fixed sample analysis is the examination of biological specimens after chemical or physical fixation preserves their structure and target molecules for laboratory study. Fixatives stabilize cellular components by cross-linking or precipitating proteins, limiting degradation and maintaining tissue architecture, while subsequent processing may include embedding, sectioning, staining, immunolabeling, or microscopy. In immunology and infection research, this approach enables researchers to localize immune cells, pathogen-associated antigens, and tissue responses within preserved samples. It supports morphological assessment, biomarker detection, and comparison of infection-related changes when live-cell analysis is impractical or biosafety requirements restrict direct handling.
