Luminal Stimulant Flow

Luminal stimulant flow describes the controlled movement of fluid, nutrients, and biological stimuli through an organ or tissue lumen, a condition that influences epithelial and immune behavior. In laboratory models, regulated flow exposes luminal cells to defined concentrations of microbes, antigens, or soluble factors while generating fluid movement that can alter transport, barrier activity, and cell signaling. In immunology and infection research, this approach helps examine how intestinal or airway tissues respond to changing luminal conditions, including pathogen exposure and inflammatory cues. It can improve physiologically relevant studies of barrier defense, host-microbe interactions, and therapeutic responses.

Transfer of Mammary Gland-forming Ability Between Mammary Basal Epithelial Cells and Mammary Luminal Cells via Extracellular Vesicles/Exosomes

This protocol describes methods for purifying, quantitating, and characterizing extracellular vesicles (EVs)/exosomes from non-adherent/mesenchymal mammary epithelial cells and for using them to transfer mammary gland-forming ability to luminal mammary epithelial cells. EVs/exosomes derived from stem-like mammary epithelial cells can transfer this cell property to cells that ingest the EVs/exosomes.
