Murine Lung Tumors

Murine lung tumors are lung neoplasms that develop in mice and serve as experimentally tractable models for studying cancer biology and its interaction with host immunity. They arise when genetic or environmental changes disrupt regulated cell growth, while tumor cells and surrounding stromal and immune cells communicate through inflammatory mediators, immune-cell recruitment, and immune-surveillance pathways. In immunology and infection research, these models help investigators examine how inflammation or infectious challenges alter tumor initiation, progression, and treatment response. They also support evaluation of immunotherapies and identification of immune mechanisms that may inform human lung-cancer research.

2023

Organotypic primary tissue explant cultures, which include precision-cut slices, represent the three-dimensional (3-D) tissue architecture as well as the multicellular interactions of native tissue. This video describes the culturing of murine lung tumor-derived tissue slices using a rotating incubation unit, a system that enables intermittent exposure of tissues to oxygen and nutrients. The protocol describes the methodology to generate and culture precision-cut lung tumor slices for drug...

The goal of this protocol is to study breast tumorigenesis. With this technique, mouse mammary tumors are removed and primary cells are prepared from tumors. A lung extraction protocol is included for studying lung metastasis. Furthermore, another protocol for analyzing mouse embryonic fibroblasts from the mouse embryo is included.

2015

Stereotactic ablative body radiation therapy (SBRT) involves the precise delivery of high-dose radiation to cancer tumor targets. A novel SBRT platform offers a first-of-its-kind gimbaled radiation accelerator mounted within a pivoting O-ring gantry capable of dynamic image-guided tumor tracking. Here, we describe dynamic tumor tracking for lung targets.
