Warehouse Roofing

Warehouse roofing is the design and construction of roof systems that protect large storage and industrial buildings from weather while supporting structural and operational requirements. Mathematics guides this work through geometric calculations of roof area, slope, span, and drainage, as well as estimates of material quantities and load distribution under conditions such as rain, wind, or accumulated snow. Applying these principles helps engineers compare roofing layouts, calculate costs, reduce material waste, and verify that designs fit the building’s dimensions and performance needs. Mathematical modeling also supports maintenance planning and the development of more efficient, durable warehouse structures.

This assay assesses the ability of a signaling molecule, here Bone Morphogenetic Protein 7 (BMP7), to reorient commissural axons. An explant of embryonic dorsal spinal cord is cultured adjacent to an aggregate of COS cells secreting the candidate growth factors. Reoriented commissural axons growing within the explant are visualized by immunohistochemistry.

We present a method to collect cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and to create a system which lacks CSF within the embryonic zebrafish brain ventricular system. This allows for further examination of CSF composition and its requirement during embryonic brain development.

Mechanosensory hair cells are the receptor cells of the inner ear. The best-characterized in vitro model system of mature mammalian hair cells utilizes organ cultures of utricles from adult mice. We present the dissection of the adult mouse utricle, and we demonstrate adenovirus-mediated infection of supporting cells in cultured utricles.
