3d Carcinoma Spheroid

A 3D carcinoma spheroid is a three-dimensional, multicellular aggregate of carcinoma cells that models key features of solid tumors more closely than conventional two-dimensional cultures. Under nonadherent or low-attachment conditions, cancer cells self-assemble through cell-cell adhesion and compaction, creating internal gradients of oxygen, nutrients, and waste that can produce distinct proliferative and hypoxic regions. These structures support studies of tumor growth, cell-cell interactions, invasion, and treatment response, while providing a practical platform for evaluating anticancer drugs and combination therapies. As a medicine research model, 3D carcinoma spheroids help bridge the gap between simplified cell assays and more complex tumor systems.
