Adson Test

The Adson test is a clinical maneuver used to assess possible neurovascular compression at the thoracic outlet, particularly involving the subclavian artery. During the test, the examiner monitors the radial pulse while the patient extends the neck, rotates the head toward the symptomatic side, and takes a deep breath, which can narrow the space between the scalene muscles and surrounding structures. A change in pulse strength or reproduction of symptoms may support suspicion of thoracic outlet syndrome, although the finding is not diagnostic on its own. Clinicians use the test alongside history, physical examination, and other investigations to guide evaluation and management.

Pancreatic Islets Isolation through Collagenase Perfusion: An Enzymatic Method to Isolate Pancreatic Islet Cells

2023

Pancreatic islets, also called the Islets of Langerhans, are a cluster of endocrine cells which produces hormones for glucose regulation and other important biological functions. This protocol explains a method for isolating pancreatic islets by first perfusing collagenase via Ampulla of Vater to digest the exocrine pancreatic tissue and a simplified density gradient centrifugation to purify the islets from mice.

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.
