Autoimmune Hepatitis Model

An autoimmune hepatitis model is an experimental system used to reproduce key features of autoimmune hepatitis, a chronic liver disease in which the immune system attacks hepatocytes. These models generate liver-directed inflammation through loss of immune tolerance, activation of autoreactive immune cells, and production of inflammatory signals that cause hepatocellular injury and fibrosis. Researchers use them to investigate disease mechanisms, identify biomarkers, and evaluate treatments that restore immune regulation or limit liver damage. By linking immune responses with measurable changes in liver tissue and function, autoimmune hepatitis models support studies of pathogenesis and therapeutic development in medicine.

An optical system was developed to visualize hepatic microcirculation with FITC-labeled erythrocytes and to measure the partial pressure of oxygen in the microvessels with laser-assisted phosphorimetry. This method can be used to investigate physiological and pathological mechanisms by analyzing microvascular structure, diameter, blood flow velocity, and oxygen tension.
