Cannula Securement

Cannula securement is the stabilization of an inserted cannula to maintain its position and preserve reliable access to a vessel or body space during care. It works by combining appropriate skin preparation with adhesive dressings, fixation devices, or carefully applied tape that limits movement while keeping the insertion site visible for assessment. Effective securement helps reduce accidental dislodgement, leakage, and interruption of therapy, supporting safer delivery of intravenous fluids, medications, or other treatments. In medicine, selecting and applying a suitable securement method also supports routine inspection of the site and timely recognition of irritation, inflammation, or other complications.
