Double-lumen Tubes

Double-lumen tubes are specialized airway devices that contain two separate channels, allowing clinicians to ventilate or isolate the lungs independently during anesthesia and critical care. Each lumen opens into a different bronchus, while inflatable tracheal and bronchial cuffs create a seal that directs oxygen and anesthetic gases to the selected lung. This arrangement enables one-lung ventilation, improves surgical access during thoracic procedures, and helps protect the nonoperative lung from blood or secretions. Correct placement is typically confirmed with clinical assessment and fiberoptic bronchoscopy, because malposition can cause inadequate ventilation, hypoxemia, or airway injury.

Here, we describe an improvement of the semi-in vitro (SIV) method for observing pollen tube guidance and reception in Arabidopsis thaliana, which increases the receptivity of ovules. The high-throughput SIV cum septum method may be coupled with gametophyte marker lines and genetically encoded biosensors to monitor the dynamic process of fertilization.
