Glycopyrrolate Secretion Reduction

Glycopyrrolate secretion reduction is the use of an anticholinergic medicine to decrease excessive saliva and other airway secretions, an important strategy in perioperative and supportive care. Glycopyrrolate blocks muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in peripheral tissues, reducing parasympathetic stimulation of salivary and respiratory glands while producing limited central nervous system effects because it poorly crosses the blood-brain barrier. Clinicians may use this effect to limit oral secretions during anesthesia, manage drooling, or improve comfort when respiratory secretions become difficult to handle. Its benefits must be balanced against anticholinergic effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention, constipation, and increased heart rate.

Oxidation-Reduction Reactions

2020

Oxidation–Reduction Reactions Earth’s atmosphere contains about 20% molecular oxygen, O2, a chemically reactive gas that plays an essential role in the metabolism of aerobic organisms and in many environmental processes that shape the world. The term oxidation was originally used to describe chemical reactions involving O2, but its meaning has evolved to refer to a broad and important reaction class known as oxidation–reduction (redox) reactions. Some redox reactions involve the transfer of...

A Reduction of Uncertainty

2026

Lease contracts are essential in reducing financial uncertainties that could impact a firm’s stability. One significant uncertainty is the residual value of an asset at the end of its lease term or useful life. The residual value represents the estimated worth of an asset upon disposal, which can fluctuate due to market conditions and technological changes.By assuming residual value risk, lessors leverage their asset valuation and resale expertise to manage depreciation and market fluctuations.

This protocol describes how to perform rapid low-cost luciferase assays at medium-throughput using an insulin-linked Gaussia luciferase as a proxy for insulin secretion from beta cells. The assay can be performed with most luminescence plate readers and multichannel pipettes.

Functional Assessment of Antibody-Secreting B Cells Using ELISpot Assay

This video demonstrates the use of the ELISpot assay to assess the function of antibody-secreting B cells, ASCs. The antibodies secreted by the ASCs interact with the membrane-bound polyclonal antibody fragments, which are detected by the enzyme-conjugated IgG or IgM antibodies. The colored spot produced in each well indicates the presence of the specific antibody's isotype, which correlates with the B cells' secretory activity.

The assay utilizes an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)- based method to detect single-cell immune responses which can be visualized by spots, hence the name ELISPOT. ELISPOT was first described in...
