Inferior Frontal Gyrus Resection

Inferior frontal gyrus resection is a neurosurgical procedure that removes abnormal or diseased tissue from the inferior frontal gyrus, a brain region involved in language, executive function, and motor control. Through a craniotomy, surgeons identify the target lesion and may use functional cortical mapping to distinguish pathological tissue from eloquent cortex before carefully excising the affected area. The procedure can treat selected brain tumors, focal epilepsy, or other localized disorders, with the extent of resection balanced against risks such as language impairment, weakness, or changes in executive function. Surgical planning and postoperative neurological assessment help guide outcomes.

Laparoscopic Anatomic S7+S8d Resection Preserving Inferior Right Hepatic Vein and S6 with Right Hepatic Vein Transection

2025

We present a laparoscopic technique for anatomic S7+S8d resection with right hepatic vein transection, preserving the inferior right hepatic vein and segment S6. Relying on meticulous anatomical landmarks without intraoperative ultrasound, this approach offers a precise and parenchyma-sparing option for dorsally located right-liver tumors, particularly in settings with limited advanced navigation resources.

Source: James W Bonz, MD, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Lateral canthotomy is a potentially eyesight-saving procedure when performed emergently for an orbital compartment syndrome. An orbital compartment syndrome results from a buildup of pressure behind the eye; as pressure mounts, both the optic nerve and its vascular supply are compressed, rapidly leading to nerve damage and blindness if the pressure is not quickly relieved. The medial and lateral...

The Influence of Liver Resection on Intrahepatic Tumor Growth

A high incidence of tumor recurrence after resection of liver metastases remains an unsolved problem. The illustrated mouse model may be useful to investigate the reasons for such recurrences. It combines a liver resection model with intrahepatic tumor cell injection for the first time.
