Mixed Reality Surgery

Mixed reality surgery combines real operative views with interactive, computer-generated 3D information to support clinical decision-making and improve spatial understanding. Using a head-mounted display, imaging data such as CT or MRI scans can be rendered as virtual anatomical models and aligned with the patient through spatial tracking, allowing surgeons to view, manipulate, and interpret guidance within the operative field. This approach can assist preoperative planning, intraoperative navigation, and training by linking anatomy, instruments, and procedural steps in a shared visual environment. Its potential impact includes more precise procedures, improved communication among care teams, and stronger integration of medical imaging into surgical practice.
