Outpatient Procedure

An outpatient procedure is a medical intervention performed without requiring the patient to stay overnight in a hospital, making it an important component of efficient, accessible healthcare. Before treatment, clinicians assess the patient’s condition, select appropriate anesthesia or sedation, and use sterile techniques to complete the intervention while monitoring vital signs and recovery. These procedures range from diagnostic examinations and biopsies to minor surgeries and image-guided treatments. Because they can reduce hospital-associated risks, costs, and recovery time, outpatient procedures support timely care while requiring careful patient selection, clear discharge instructions, and follow-up monitoring.

Electrochemotherapy is the local treatment of solid tumors. The main mechanism is electroporation-mediated permeabilization of the tumor cells' membrane which enables increased internalization of cytostatics like bleomycin and cisplatin. Thus, antitumor effectiveness is potentiated at the site of the application of electric pulses to the tumors.

Ideally, the people who observe and record the children’s behavior are unaware of who was assigned to the experimental or control group, in order to control for experimenter bias. Experimenter bias refers to the possibility that a researcher’s expectations might skew the results of the study. Remember, conducting an experiment requires a lot of planning, and the people involved in the research project have a vested interest in supporting their hypotheses. If the observers knew which child was...

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN Mice and rats account for a large proportion of the animals used in biomedical research. Ensuring their welfare is both an ethical responsibility and essential for scientific validity. There are general procedures that apply to the majority of these mice and rats, but some of the animals, such as the immunocompromised ones, require additional steps to be taken to sustain them for...
