Ultraviolet B Phototherapy

Ultraviolet B phototherapy is a medical treatment that exposes the skin to controlled doses of UVB radiation to manage inflammatory and pigmentary disorders. UVB, commonly delivered as narrowband light around 311–313 nm or as broadband radiation, induces DNA photoproducts in skin cells and alters local immune signaling, reducing excessive inflammation and keratinocyte proliferation. In medicine, this approach is used for conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis, with treatment schedules adjusted to skin type and clinical response. Careful dosing and monitoring help balance therapeutic benefits against risks including erythema, premature skin aging, and cumulative ultraviolet damage.

Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) Spectroscopy

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy is one of the most popular analytical techniques because it is very versatile and able to detect nearly every molecule. With UV-Vis spectroscopy, the UV-Vis light is passed through a sample and the transmittance of light by a sample is measured. From the transmittance (T), the absorbance can be calculated as A=-log (T). An absorbance spectrum is obtained that shows the absorbance of a...

Ultraviolet and Visible (UV–Vis) Spectroscopy: Overview

2024

Ultraviolet–visible (UV–visible or UV–Vis) spectroscopy is an analytical technique that investigates the interaction between matter and UV–Vis light within the electromagnetic spectrum. This method is widely used for its versatility, simplicity, and relatively quick data acquisition, making it valuable for both qualitative and quantitative analysis. When UV–Vis radiation passes through a material, molecules absorb light depending on the energy required for electronic transitions. As a result...
