Drug Treatment Effects

Drug treatment effects are the changes produced by therapeutic compounds in biological systems, including alterations in brain activity, behavior, and clinical symptoms. In neuroscience, drugs commonly act by binding neurotransmitter receptors, inhibiting transporters, or modifying enzyme activity, thereby changing synaptic signaling and neural circuit function. Researchers assess these effects through molecular, cellular, behavioral, and physiological measurements to determine treatment responses and adverse outcomes. This knowledge supports the development and optimization of therapies for neurological and psychiatric disorders while improving understanding of how brain circuits regulate cognition, emotion, movement, and other functions.

Cited by 4 •

2015

Here, real-time monitoring of tumor cell metabolism, combined with an in vivo chicken embryo chorio-allantoic membrane (CAM) model of metastasis, are used to evaluate novel anti-cancer targets/agents for their ability to sensitize tumor cells to DNA damaging chemotherapeutics.

Brain Tumor Stem Cell (BTSC) Migration Assay for Drug Treatment Studies: An In Vitro Live-cell Imaging Technique to Analyze the Effect of Drug Treatment on Migration of BTSCs

2025

In this video, we perform brain tumor stem cell migration assay to analyze the effect of the drug of interest on the migration of live brain tumor stem cells using chemotaxis migration plate. Live-cell imaging facilitates the visualization and quantification of cell migration during the assay.

Deep Brain Stimulation as a Treatment for Drug Addiction in a Rat Model

Source: Batra, V., et al. A General Method for Evaluating Deep Brain Stimulation Effects on Intravenous Methamphetamine Self-Administration. J. Vis. Exp. (2016).This video demonstrates a rat model of drug addiction in which the animal self-administers intravenous methamphetamine by pressing a lever, leading to compulsive drug-seeking behavior driven by dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens. To counteract this, the rat undergoes deep brain stimulation (DBS) via an implanted bipolar...

Auricular Point Acupressure Therapy: A Safe and Effective Treatment for Postsurgical Abortion Recovery

2026

This protocol details auricular plaster therapy using Vaccaria seeds on specific acupoints to promote recovery after surgical abortion. As a non-pharmacological adjunct to conventional treatment, it reduces vaginal bleeding duration, alleviates symptoms, and accelerates menstrual cycle restoration, demonstrating both safety and efficacy in clinical application.

Assessing the Angiogenesis Effects of a Test Drug in a Rat Model of Ischemic Stroke

2025

Begin with a rat subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion, a surgical procedure that temporarily blocks blood flow to the brain tissue. This induces an ischemic stroke, leading to brain tissue damage.Next, remove the blockage to restore blood flow.Select rats that exhibit neurological deficits to ensure study relevance. Then, administer the test drug to the experimental group while injecting saline into the other group.Repeat the drug and saline administration. The test drug promotes...
