Endothelial Cell Media

Endothelial Cell Media are specialized culture formulations that support the growth, maintenance, and functional study of endothelial cells, which line blood vessels and regulate exchange between blood and tissues. They provide essential nutrients, salts, amino acids, and defined supplements or growth factors that promote cell adhesion, proliferation, and retention of barrier-associated properties under controlled laboratory conditions. In neuroscience, these media help establish brain microvascular endothelial cell cultures and blood-brain barrier models for investigating neurovascular communication, permeability, inflammation, and drug transport. Consistent media conditions improve reproducibility in studies of vascular contributions to neurological disease and therapeutic delivery.

Source: Jagau, H. et al. Pneumococcus Infection of Primary Human Endothelial Cells in Constant Flow. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates the real-time visualization of pneumococcal attachment to Von Willebrand Factor (VWF) strings on endothelial cells under constant media flow conditions. It outlines the steps for stimulating VWF release, labeling the strings, and quantifying bacterial binding.
