Lentivirus Microinjection

Lentivirus microinjection is a gene-delivery technique that introduces lentiviral vectors directly into selected tissues, enabling targeted manipulation of cells in neuroscience research. A fine needle deposits the vector into a defined brain region, where viral particles enter nearby cells, reverse-transcribe their genetic payload, and integrate it into the host genome for sustained transgene expression. Researchers use this approach to express proteins, silence genes, label neuronal populations, or modify neural circuits with spatial precision. By linking genetic manipulation to specific brain areas, lentivirus microinjection supports studies of neuronal function, connectivity, disease mechanisms, and potential therapeutic strategies.

Zebrafish Microinjection Techniques

One of the major advantages to working with zebrafish (Danio rerio) is that their genetics can be easily manipulated by microinjection of early stage embryos. Using this technique, solutions containing genetic material or knockdown constructs are delivered into the blastomeres: the embryonic cells sitting atop the yolk of the newly fertilized egg. Delivery into the cytoplasm is achieved either through direct injection into the blastomere, or via natural cytoplasmic movements that occur after a...
