Neuroanatomical Analysis

Neuroanatomical analysis is the systematic study of the nervous system’s structure, organization, and connections, providing a foundation for understanding how neural architecture supports behavior and cognition. It combines methods such as brain dissection, histology, microscopy, neuroimaging, and tract tracing to examine regions, cell types, pathways, and their spatial relationships at multiple scales. In neuroscience, these analyses help identify functional circuits, characterize developmental and pathological changes, and relate structural differences to neurological disorders. By linking anatomy with physiology and behavior, neuroanatomical analysis supports brain mapping, disease research, and the development of targeted diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Serial Two-Photon Tomography of the Whole Marmoset Brain for Neuroanatomical Analyses

2025

Serial two-photon tomography (STPT) imaging is a technique to image a mass of tissue in its three-dimensional shape by combining two-photon imaging with automatic stage control and microtome slicing. Here we describe a protocol for implementing it for marmoset brains to better understand their structural features.

Salmonella invades and replicates inside intestinal epithelial cells both in Salmonella-specific vacuoles and free in the cytosol (hyper-replication). A high-throughput fluorescence microscopy-based protocol is described here to quantify the intracellular phenotypes of Salmonella by two complementary image analyses through ImageJ, reaching single-cell resolution and scoring.
