Reminiscence Bump

The reminiscence bump is the tendency for older adults to recall a disproportionately large number of autobiographical memories from adolescence and early adulthood, making it an important phenomenon in the study of memory and identity. Researchers attribute this pattern to the interaction of strong memory encoding, novel experiences, identity formation, and culturally shared life events during these periods. Studying the reminiscence bump helps psychologists understand how personal memories are organized across the lifespan, how life narratives support a stable sense of self, and how autobiographical recall changes with normal aging or memory-related conditions.

We demonstrate the use of the Laser-induced Forward Transfer (LIFT) technique for flip-chip assembly of optoelectronic components. This approach provides a simple, cost-effective, low-temperature, fast and flexible solution for fine-pitch bumping and bonding on chip-scale for achieving high-density circuits for optoelectronic applications.

Rotary Evaporation to Remove Solvent

2023

Source: Dr. Melanie Pribisko Yen and Grace Tang — California Institute of Technology Rotary evaporation is a technique most commonly used in organic chemistry to remove a solvent from a higher-boiling point compound of interest. The rotary evaporator, or "rotovap", was invented in 1950 by the chemist Lyman C. Craig. The primary use of a rotovap is to dry and purify samples for downstream applications. Its speed and ability to handle large volumes of solvent make rotary evaporation a preferred...

Preparation of Colliculo-Thalamocortical Slices from a Mouse Pup Brain

2025

The video demonstrates the preparation of colliculo-thalamocortical brain slices from mouse pup brains. An isolated brain is aligned on a marked slide and cut at an angle to align the auditory midbrain and forebrain in the same plane. The brain is then sliced using a vibratome, and the slices containing the major auditory midbrain and forebrain structures are transferred to a holding chamber for preservation.
