William Mcdougall

William McDougall was a British psychologist whose work helped establish social psychology and advanced a purposive view of behavior, emphasizing that actions are organized around goals. He proposed that innate instincts, such as avoidance, curiosity, and parental care, provide motivational forces that interact with learning and shape individual and group conduct. His concept of hormic psychology challenged purely mechanical accounts of behavior and influenced research on motivation, personality, group behavior, and social influence. Although some of his claims, including theories about inherited mental differences, remain controversial, McDougall’s emphasis on purpose and motivation contributed to debates that shaped modern psychology.

2013

The preparation of high quality yeast cell extracts is a necessary first step in the analysis of individual proteins or entire proteomes. Here we describe a fast, efficient, and reliable homogenization protocol for budding yeast cells that has been optimized to preserve protein functions, interactions, and post-translational modifications.

Two techniques can be used to establish this model: injection of a cancer cell suspension into the cecal wall or transplantation of a piece of subcutaneous tumor onto the cecum. This model is useful for studying the natural progression of colorectal cancer and testing new therapeutic agents against colorectal cancer.

The Fibular Nerve Injury Method: A Reliable Assay to Identify and Test Factors That Repair Neuromuscular Junctions

We have developed a nerve injury method to reliably examine muscle reinnervation, and thus regeneration of neuromuscular junctions in mice. This technique involves injuring the common fibular nerve via a simple and highly reproducible surgery. Muscle reinnervation in then assessed by whole-mounting the extensor digitorum longus muscle.
